Choosing The Best Audio Video Furniture

If you just bought a brand new DLP, flat TV, LCD screen or a projector, then you might be thinking of the right place to put it -- on the wall or on a cabinet. What you need is an audio cabinet meant for the components, the TV stand and also a base to house the other components and the TV. This article will tell you how to choose the audio video furniture that will best suit your situation.

Assembled vs Knockdown

Home theater furniture is usually assembled either in a single piece or KD (knockdown). The difference between them is that on the KD model everything comes in pieces in a box and you have to be skillful and assemble it all together. The advantage of KD is the fact that the pieces will arrive faster and you will be able to get on with it. Plus, the KD is less expensive than the assembled models.

Another term that is often associated with KD is RTS – Ready to assemble. Basically RTA is the same as KD. The customer will pay less but will have to assemble everything. Another advantage for this is the fact that if something breaks, a piece can be easily found. Most of the KD furniture is made of medium desnity fiber board (MDF) and some real wood veneers.

Placement

Where are you going to put everything? Are you thinking about hiding it all in a closet or do you want to keep it up front? If you want to hide the components, think about getting rotating AV racks or even a TV lift for the ultimate in style and high-tech goodness.

Metal and Glass or Wood

If you like the traditional approach, then AV furniture is the best way to do it. But glass and metal can also look good in various combinations. The metal and glass stands or racks can be used for rooms that have a more modern look and where the other pieces match with the racks of the audio system.

You may want to consider a wood style cabinet if you have a more traditionally decorated room. Even though the TV is likely a more modern design you can still display it tastefully with a wood cabinet or enclosure. If you use a TV lift you can hide the whole TV and only make it visible when it is time to watch TV.
